Henrico County will be allowing Middle School students to participate in sporting events this Spring. During this unprecedented time, we all will be required to do our part in helping to maintain a safe environment for all students. We are in the process of preparing more information for dissemination, please be sure to thoroughly read all information as it comes out. Holman will be offering the following sports this spring, Baseball, Softball, Boys Tennis, Girls Soccer and Track.  Tryouts and practices for all sports will start Tuesday, April 13th from 3:30pm until 5:15pm.  In order to tryout, students must have the forms found in the forms link below, completed and delivered to the Athletic Director on or before April 1, 2021.

Academic Requirements for Participation in Sports

All middle school student-athletes must maintain a minimum of a 2.0 GPA. A semester or cumulative GPA may be used to determine eligibility. Sanctions for not meeting the minimum GPA requirement are as follows:

6th grade Students: Athletes will be informed of the 2.0 minimum GPA requirement in an effort to prepare them for participation in athletics in future years.

7th grade Students: Athletes who meet the minimum MSAC requirements will be able to try out and participate with less than a 2.0 GPA. A 7th grade student-athlete cannot participate in competition until his/her grades have increased above a 2.0 GPA. School administrative staff will conduct a grade check two weeks after the season begins to determine full eligibility for those student-athletes with a GPA below 2.0. If the student-athlete’s grades are not above a 2.0 GPA after the fourth week of the season, he/she will be allowed to practice, but will be ineligible to participate in competition for the remainder of the season.

8th grade Students: Athletes must have a minimum 2.0 GPA to try out and participate in middle school and/or high school athletics.

The academic advisor will notify the parents of a student athlete if his or her grades for the CURRENT marking period fall below the minimum requirement of 2.0 GPA and will develop an appropriate tutoring plan on a case by case basis while the athlete is benched from competition. While student athletes will remain a part of the team, some or all of practice time will be dedicated to tutoring and supporting the student athlete to meet the minimum GPA requirement.

Athletic Forms and Information

All students who plan to try out for a middle school sport must have the following completed forms on file in the main office. Participation forms must be completely filled in and properly signed, attesting that the student has been examined and found to be physically fit for athletic competition and that his or her parents consent to participation. The forms are also available in the main office at the school.
