The School Counseling Department is presenting a workshop titled, Time to Talk: Talking to Kids about Drugs and Alcohol on Tuesday, November 29th at 6:00PM in the Auditorium. Our guest speakers for the evening are Debbie Nelson, her son, Andrew, and Barbara Burke. Andrew (recent Godwin High School graduate in recovery) and Mrs. Nelson were recently featured in a Richmond Times-Dispatch article. Interested in becoming more informed about your student’s recently completed, upcoming, and overdue school assignments? Schoology can help. The new Schoology Parent Plan Pilot begins on Wednesday, November 16th during parent teacher conferences. By creating a parent account you will have the ability to log in under your own account and connect to your child’s course work. We will be holding an open Schoology Parent session in the community room during parent conferences. The community room is located next to the library. Please stop by anytime to sign up and learn how to use the parent access.

The fall play, The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza, will be performed Thursday, November 17th, Friday, Novemeber 18th, and Saturday, November 19th at 7:00PM in the Holman Auditorium. Tickets are $5 at the door.
Interest meetings for basketball and wrestling will be this Thursday, November 10th at 6:00 pm.

Students were treated to an amazing visitor at the All Holman Reads kick-off assembly. George Dennehy, born in Romania without arms, is an accomplished musician and international motivational speaker. He sang and spoke to the school about what it was like when he was in middle school, without arms. Click here to watch the video.

Holman Middle School is participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s- Innsbrook. So mark your calendars now to join in on November 5th This walk is a walk that is dedicated to raising money for care, support, and research of Alzheimer’s Disease. This year, Holman Middle School’s Goal for Fundraising is $2,000. Help us reach this goal by everyone donating in some way. If you would like to make a financial donation you may go to tinyurl.com/scawalk2016 and click on donate. We also need walkers to represent Holman Middle School. In person registration starts on October 17th. students will be able to sign up each morning before school the week of the 17th. Students, and parents, may also register by going to the same site and clicking on “Join the Team” that is under “Our Walk”. Come out and support Holman as we try to help fund a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease.
The SCA is proud to announce that this year’s Fall Dance will be on October 14th from 6:30-8:30 in the school gym. Please note: formal dance attire is not required! Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door. They may also be purchased the week of the dance in Mrs. Tignor’s room from 8:05-8:30 (Wed-Fri prior to the dance). This year’s theme is a Fiesta – so feel free to BYOS. (Bring Your Own Sombrero) In addition to a DJ, there will be a photo booth and refreshment, snacks and pizza available for purchase. Each student gets one free photo booth session; each additional session may be purchased for $1. All concessions will also cost $1, so students should plan on bringing a few extra dollars with them. We hope to see everyone at this year’s school dance. OLE!
